And God Said, Let There Be Light

Or something like that.

My power went out yesterday around 1:30 (I was at work, but that is when the neighbor noticed it). About 8 houses were affected, plus the stores around the corner from me. It was sorta strange, walking around my house in candlelight, and the dogs were sorta freaked at first, but then they just went into their bedroom and sat on their dog couches.

Yes, my dogs have a bedroom. So fucking what?

Anyway, about 8:30 I see a truck working out in the alley and I see a neighbor walking around with a flashlight on his head. I think it was one of those spelunker (sp?) things. He tells me the power will be on in a few minutes and it was.

Then I'm 10 minutes into "In Her Shoes" (which I've seen about 10 times but still, who likes their movie to be interrupted?) and it goes out again. I eventually regained electricity in a few minutes, but it made me think about all the things you can't do without it. Like just about everything after dark.

I told my elderly neighbor that it must have been awful being a pioneer. You know, with no electricity. And those horrible clothes and all.

Have you seen that show on PBS that asks people to volunteer to do some pioneer reality show? It's super crazy. No electricity, no internet, no Coach handbags, no Tivo. I think I would just up and die.

MKD and I were without power for a week once. I actually felt my sanity slowly slipping without power and the use of a refrigerator, tv, etc. You really don't know what you got until it's gone!

What, no pervy comments about what you CAN do after dark without electricity?

A doggy bedroom, that's so cute! A bottle of wine, a couple of candles and a good book is what I'd do if I were alone. With the spouse, we'd have to have sex of course.
